The hacker Gary McKinnon, who claimed he only hacked US military networks to try and find evidence of UFO’s and Alien technology has lost his legal battle to be tried here in the UK.
On 4 July Home Secretary John Reid granted the US request to extradite Mr McKinnon for trial. If found guilty, Mckinnon could face up to 70 years in a US jail.
One friend of McKinnon said he was being made a “scapegoat” for the shortcomings of security policies on US military networks. Others said the potential sentence he could serve if found guilty was out of proportion to the crimes he committed.
McKinnon now has around 14 days to appeal to the high court against the decision.
