Cryptoworld News

Little Gobi, Mongolia
Famed for hunting the Mongolian Deathworm, the self-made Cryptozoologist Ivan Mackerle receives an excellent review in the Prague Post.
Mackerle, 65, and his small band of friends have travelled across the Gobi desert, hacked through the jungles of Madagascar, and scuba dived remote Micronesian islands to name but a few.
Ivan was one the main influences for our very own expedition to Mongolia in 2005 where we also searched for the Allghoi khorkhoi. You can read more about Operation Deathworm here.

Cryptoworld’s Operation Deathworm
So its been almost a month, my only defence is that the move from one server to the other took longer than I intended (and a little bit stressful at times).
Everything should be running as before, although you will have probably noticed we have had a bit of a redesign. It’s not completely finished, we are still missing the new features (see below), but as I promised the site would be back up by the end of this week, I thought I had better make the effort. So here it is…what do you think?
Normal service ’should’ now resume, but there will probably be a few hiccups over the next few days as I tidy up a few loose ends - like restoring the original Operation Deathworm Blog for instance!
As for the new features, the most exciting will be a video archive, showing clips from our investigations and expeditions. The clips will also be available for download as a video-podcast, so you will also be able to watch them on your portable music/video player of choice!
A few other features are in the pipeline, so stay tuned for more on these soon.
OK, that about wraps it up for now, thanks for being so patient, hope you all have a fantastic 2007.
Dear Friends,
This is just a very quick email to let everybody know that Cryptoworld will probably be off-line for the next few days. I am having a long overdue spring-clean and have also decided to move everything to a new server at the same time. Once the move is complete there will be a few changes including a few new features which I think you will find useful.
So stay tuned and I will let you know when everything is back up and running.
Thanks in advance for your patience.
Beaches, Caves, Nymphs and Dragons
Well, Cryptoworld is back from a well earned break in very-sunny Kefelonia. The island is beautiful and although it is technically a tourist destination, it is really easy to find a quiet spot away from the bright pink bodies - that are laid out like sausages on the beach, sizzling in the sun. They almost look like a kind of offering to the Greek sun-god Helios!

If you delve back before the earthquake of 1953 and the second Word War, even before Louis De Bernieres
Captain Corelli’s Mandolin,
you will find a whole wealth of magical history, find weird and wonderful natural geological sights and stories of strange creatures and monsters.
I know I know, it was only a few days ago that Cryptoworld disappeared for a vacation - well although we did sit in the sun and mess around in a swimming pool for a few days, we were busy researching some Wiltshire mysteries, black dogs, haunted houses and the like, which we will write about soon.
But in the mean time, well for the next two weeks, Cryptoworld is off to Greece, nothing too exciting, no expedition in search of cryptids (unfortunately). But we will probably be sweating in the hot sun and no doubt drinking some local poison way into the early hours.
We are off to the Greek island of Kefalonia, and plan to explore some of its weird history. Updates will probably be far and few, so if you don’t hear anything, don’t worry - we are probably just up a mountain or exploring a cove somewhere.
So (yassas) goodbye for now, see you in two weeks.
Cryptoworld will be out of communication range for a few days as we are going to explore the surrounding Wiltshire countryside.
If all goes to plan we should be back on Saturday, so if you leave a comment or try and contact us, you may have to wait a few days for a response.
Lets hope the weather holds, speak to you all soon…
Thanks to everybody for pointing out there was a problem with the site over the weekend. Something weird happened to the database and caused the pictures in the articles and gallery to stop working.
I spent most of yesterday (Monday) trying to work out what was causing the problem, but in the end had to drop the database tables for the pictures and reload/start again. A bit a pain as I had to go through every post and re-link the pictures.
The Mongolian Expedition Gallery is still not working properly, but I intend to resolve that this afternoon, but if you notice anything else going a bit weird - please let me know via the contact form .
Thanks again, Dave

Weird Weekend 2005
It’s that time of year again! Craziness with the CFZ!
So if you have nothing better to do over the weekend of the 18th-20th August, then I highly recommend you head down to Devon and have some damn find crypto-fun!
Highlights will definitely include some alcohol, giggles, a damn good meal or two and Richard Freeman looking very dapper in his Gambia-Stained Safari Suit… nice!
A recent mailer from CFZ’s Jon concerning the Weird Weekend is as follows:
For the seventh year running, devotees of the weird and wonderful, the strange and supernatural, and the downright odd will be converging into Devon for what has become the biggest event of this type of the year. The weekend of 18-20th August, will see the little North Devon village of Woolfardisworthy (Woolsery), becoming the weirdest village in the land!
The ‘Weird Weekend’ was the brainchild of Jonathan Downes (46), Director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology the world’s largest cryptozoological (mystery animal research) organization.
You may remember that I tried to start a Friday’s Round-up last year, but I failed miserably. So miserably in fact I only managed one Friday!
But now, with UFO Mondays , I want to try and re-start a quick update of the weeks news and stories - some of which I have already talked about during the week, and others I’ve been following or noticed, but didn’t necessarily think were worth their very own post. So here goes, Friday 16th June 2006.
On Cryptoworld this week:
UFOs and Aliens started off the week, with a family from Haydock seeing a a flashing ball of light speed across the sky, before disappearing into the clouds, and Aliens allegedly communicated through a former police working, warning England would reach the semi-finals, but struggle to get any further! I’m not a big fan of the sport, but I’m now intrigued to see how far we do get, and if the ‘Aliens’ were right!
