New finch species found in Idaho

One does not expect to discover a bird species new to science while wandering around the continental United States. Nor does one expect that such a species would provide much insight into how co-evolutionary arms races promote speculation. On both fronts a paper to appear in The American Naturalist proves otherwise. Julie Smith, now at Pacific Lutheran University, and her former graduate advisor, Craig Benkman at the University of Wyoming, have uncovered strong evidence that [...]

UFO shoot down over Iran?

Did Iran shoot down a UFO? A Spyplane? Or was it just an exercise to test their combat alertness and power of their new air defence system? A bright object was sighted in the sky of Arak, Iran’s Central Province, Friday night, and was shot down by the Iranian anti-aircraft missiles, BAZTAB reported. The Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) was completely destroyed by the country’s new air defence system, the report said. BAZTAB has learned that [...]

Rio Grande sand circles created by artist not UFOs

The mysterious sand circles found on the banks of the Rio Grande have turned out to be created by a local artist, and not the work of Aliens! The work of art, called “Inner Sanctum”, was crafted by Michael Alford who said “Art is a mystery, but this mystery is man-made, not alien-made,”. On hearing that the circles where man-made, some visitors had expressed anger at what they called a hoax, but Alford confessed that [...]

Nasa’s Space Probe prepares to explore Earth’s deepest sinkhole

Scientists return this week to the world’s deepest known sinkhole, Cenote Zacatn in Mexico, to resume tests of a NASA-funded robot called DEPTHX, designed to survey and explore for life in one of Earth’s most extreme regions and potentially in outer space. If all goes well with this second round of testing and exploration, the team will return in May for a full-scale exploration of the Zacatn system. Sinking more than 1,000 feet, Zacatn has [...]

Cryptomundo’s Coleman strapped for cash

The self made Cryptozoologist, author and founder of the Cryptomundo blog, Loren Coloeman appears to have run out of money and is asking for donations to keep him and his website(s) alive. Cryptozoology like any hobby is not cheap, but when it becomes your main source of income, I can imagine it is very hard to make ends meet, especially when you have to race off across the country and world to investigate sightings of [...]

Peruvian Citadel could be the earliest Ancient Solar Observatory in the Americas

Archeologists from Yale and the University of Leicester have identified an ancient solar observatory at Chankillo, Peru as the oldest in the Americas with alignments covering the entire solar year, according to an article in the March 2 issue of Science.Recorded accounts from the 16th century A.D. detail practices of state-regulated sun worship during Inca times, and related social and cosmological beliefs. These speak of towers being used to mark the rising or setting position [...]
