The Montauk Project
Junior
The Montauk Project is a conspiracy theory centred around alleged secret government experiments conducted at Camp Hero, a former military base located in Montauk, New York, at the eastern tip of Long Island. According to the theory, which gained popularity in the 1990s, the U.S. government carried out various clandestine activities at the site, including:
- Time travel experiments
- Mind control and psychic research
- Teleportation
- Contact with extraterrestrial beings
The conspiracy claims that these experiments took place in underground facilities beneath the base, particularly under the large radar tower that still stands today. Some proponents of the theory allege that the project involved the abduction and exploitation of children for psychic experiments, similar to the plot of the popular TV show “Stranger Things”.
The Montauk Project theory involves several key figures who have either claimed involvement or have been associated with spreading the story. While there is no verifiable evidence of the project’s existence, these individuals have played significant roles in shaping its narrative.
The main figures allegedly involved:
Preston Nichols

Role: Engineer and alleged Montauk Project insider
Claims:
- Co-authored The Montauk Project: Experiments in Time (1992), which popularized the theory.
- Claimed to have recovered repressed memories of working at Camp Hero on mind control, time travel, and interdimensional experiments.
- Alleged that experiments with the “Montauk Chair” (a device amplifying psychic abilities) led to the manifestation of the thought-formed monster known as “Junior.”
Al Bielek

Role: Self-proclaimed whistleblower, claimed to be involved in both the Montauk Project and the Philadelphia Experiment
Claims:
- Asserted that he was originally a man named Edward Cameron and was subjected to mind-wiping and age-regression technology.
- Claimed he was part of Project Rainbow (a precursor to Montauk), which allegedly experimented with time travel and invisibility.
- Stated that he and his brother, Duncan Cameron, jumped off the USS Eldridge (from the Philadelphia Experiment) and landed in the Montauk Project years later.
Duncan Cameron

Role: Alleged psychic test subject
Claims:
- Supposedly one of the key subjects in the Montauk Chair experiments.
- Said to have been used as a psychic conduit to control time-travel experiments.
- Allegedly involved in the manifestation of the “Junior” monster when his subconscious fears were projected into reality.
Stewart Swerdlow

Role: Self-claimed Montauk survivor
Claims:
- Claimed to have been a victim of Montauk’s mind control and genetic manipulation programs.
- Described undergoing psychic training and interdimensional travel as part of secret government experiments.
- Asserted that the project sought to create superhumans and experiment with reality manipulation.
Peter Moon (Vincent Barbarick)

Role: Author and researcher
Claims:
- Co-authored The Montauk Project series with Preston Nichols.
- Has written extensively on occult, time travel, and alternative history theories.
- While not an alleged participant, he helped spread and develop the mythology surrounding Montauk.
Dr. John von Neumann

Role: Mathematician and physicist (historical figure, but linked through conspiracy theories)
Claims:
- Said to have been secretly involved in developing Montauk’s time travel technology.
- His work in computing and quantum physics was allegedly used to engineer time and space manipulation devices.
Nikola Tesla

Role: Inventor and electrical engineer
Claims:
- Some claim his stolen research on electromagnetic fields and free energy was used in Montauk and the Philadelphia Experiment.
- Allegedly helped design teleportation technology before his death, with his notes being seized by the U.S. government.
While most of the Montauk Project’s key figures, such as Preston Nichols, Duncan Cameron, and Al Bielek, are named in conspiracy narratives, many claims also reference unnamed military and intelligence officials, as well as extraterrestrial entities. These elements contribute to the theory’s sense of mystery and secrecy.
1. Unnamed U.S. Military and Intelligence Officials
Numerous conspiracy accounts suggest that high-ranking military and intelligence officers were directly involved in the Montauk Project, overseeing its secret experiments. However, due to the classified nature of the alleged program, their identities remain speculative.
Alleged Government and Military Involvement
- U.S. Air Force & Navy – Some theories claim the project was a continuation of the Philadelphia Experiment, initially conducted by the Navy, before being relocated to Montauk under Air Force control.
- CIA & MKUltra Connection – There are speculations that aspects of Montauk’s mind control experiments were an extension of the CIA’s MKUltra program, which officially researched brainwashing, behavioral conditioning, and altered states of consciousness.
- DARPA (Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency) – Some theorists suggest that DARPA, which works on cutting-edge military technology, played a role in advancing time-travel and interdimensional research at Montauk.
2. Alleged Extraterrestrial Involvement
One of the more outlandish aspects of the Montauk Project conspiracy is the claim that aliens collaborated with scientists and the military at Camp Hero.
Common Alien Involvement Claims
- Technology Exchange: Some stories suggest that extraterrestrials provided advanced time travel, teleportation, and mind control technology to U.S. officials in exchange for unknown favours.
- Interdimensional Travel: According to Preston Nichols, Montauk scientists successfully opened portals to other dimensions, and at least one experiment allegedly brought in an extraterrestrial entity.
- Grey Aliens & Reptilians: Accounts differ, but some claim Grey aliens were assisting scientists, while others speculate that Reptilian beings manipulated the entire project from the shadows.
- Mars & Other Worlds: Andrew Basiago, who connects Montauk to Project Pegasus, has claimed that the U.S. government had the ability to send people to Mars through Montauk-like teleportation technology.

The Montauk Project remains one of the most controversial and mysterious conspiracy theories of our time, alleging secret government experiments in time travel, mind control, and interdimensional phenomena at Camp Hero in Montauk, New York. Below is a number of interviews with Preston Nichols, Duncan Cameron and Al Bielek.
Bunker Beast!
The thought-formed bunker monster at Montauk, often referred to as “Junior,” is a fascinating element of the Montauk Project conspiracy theory. According to the stories, this creature was allegedly created through psychic experimentation at Camp Hero in Montauk, New York.

The monster is said to have been manifested through the power of human consciousness, specifically through the use of the “Montauk Chair.” This device supposedly amplified psychic abilities, allowing thoughts to be projected and materialized. During one of these experiments, it’s claimed that a participant’s subconscious fears were accidentally brought into physical reality, resulting in the creation of the monster.
Descriptions of the creature vary, but it’s often portrayed as a large, Sasquatch-like beast. Some accounts describe it as a terrifying entity that caused chaos when it emerged, frightening local wildlife and causing deer to flee through the town in panic.
The monster is said to have been so powerful and destructive that it led to the eventual shutdown of the Montauk Project. According to the legend, the creature is now supposedly held in an “eternal prison” beneath the Camp Hero base.
Project Pegasus
Project Pegasus is often linked to the U.S. government, particularly the Department of Defence and agencies like DARPA (Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency). It allegedly operated during the 1960s and 1970s as part of experiments in teleportation and time manipulation.
The project allegedly involved “chrononauts,” individuals trained to travel through time and space using a device called the “chronovisor” or similar advanced technology. Participants supposedly travelled to past and future events, as well as parallel timelines, for intelligence-gathering purposes.
Some conspiracy theorists suggest a broader, unified narrative where both Project Pegasus and the Montauk Project are part of a larger secret government initiative to explore the fringes of human knowledge and technology. They argue that these programs might share common origins or personnel, but this remains speculative and unverified.
