This photo was allegedly taken at the end of June or the beginning of July 1995 by Mrs Korejwo, a Polish school teacher.

Mrs Korejwo didn’t spot the object at the time of taking the picture, and was shocked to find it once developed.

The photo has been examined by Kodak photo lab workers, and concluded the film was not defective.

Mystery as Temple Pillar Heats up

Temple visitors and devotees are mystified as to why a Pillar in the Devi temple (Agra) suddenly became unbearably hot.

Experts are not sure what caused the mystery, but it has been suggested it could be either a “leak in an electric wire” (never heard of a leaking electric wire before !?!), heating from gas storage below the structure or just a temporary phenomenon… yep, just a temporary phenomenon!

Intelligent Chimp?

Intelligent Chimp?

Ten large holes and a network of tunnels have been discovered in a field outside Krasnoyarsk in Siberia (Russia).

Locals are unsure where the holes came from or what cold have made them, but it is thought that that the holes, some large enough to stand up in, all all connect together via a network of tunnels.

Some have speculated that they have been made by a local prankster, but others have said they are made by a lager mysterious animal.

Mole Man ordered to Stop!

This is brilliant, it reminds me of a crazy idea a friend and I had when we were younger… although when I think about it, it wasn’t that long ago really, so we weren’t that much younger… scary!

William Lyttle, known locally as the Mole Man, from Hackney East London, has been ordered to stop digging holes under his house and the local neighbourhood.

Kefalonian Vacation

I know I know, it was only a few days ago that Cryptoworld disappeared for a vacation - well although we did sit in the sun and mess around in a swimming pool for a few days, we were busy researching some Wiltshire mysteries, black dogs, haunted houses and the like, which we will write about soon.

But in the mean time, well for the next two weeks, Cryptoworld is off to Greece, nothing too exciting, no expedition in search of cryptids (unfortunately). But we will probably be sweating in the hot sun and no doubt drinking some local poison way into the early hours.

We are off to the Greek island of Kefalonia, and plan to explore some of its weird history. Updates will probably be far and few, so if you don’t hear anything, don’t worry - we are probably just up a mountain or exploring a cove somewhere.

So (yassas) goodbye for now, see you in two weeks.

What is Ninki Nanka?

Most of you by now would have heard about this years CFZ expedition to Gambia, in search of Dragons!

[singlepic=84,220,220,,right]One of the dragon-like beast they are searching for is locally known as Ninki-Nanka, which apparently translates as Dragon-Devil, but there is also some reference to suggest it could just mean Snake, that’s if you search around on the Internet and browse a few dusty cryptozoology books!

River and lake monsters are nothing new in Africa, in the Congo there are stories of a lake monster called Mokèlé-mbèmbé, in Zimbabwe there is the Chipekwe and in northern Angola there is the Isiququmadevu. But apart from a few sketchy descriptions, nobody really seems to know what the Ninki Nanka looks like. So below, we have collected together some info to try and help explain what the Ninki-Nanka really looks like.

As mentioned above, the local name for the Gambian river and swamp monster is Ninki Nanka, which roughly translate as Dragon-Devil. It’s reputed to live along the Gambia River and in the uninhabited mangrove swamps and is usually only seen at night, when it is said to emerge from its lair and eat whatever lies in its path!

Chameleon snake discovered

[singlepic=51,240,180,,right]A new snake with the ability to spontaneously change colour has been discovered in the forests of the Heart of Borneo, one of the most biologically diverse regions on Earth, possessing staggeringly high numbers of unique species across all groups of plants and animals.

The half-metre-long venomous snake is normally brown with an iridescent sheen, but can turn white. It is not yet known whether the snake can become other colours too, or what exactly causes the change.

The chameleon is the best known colour-changing reptile, but many other lizards, a handful of snakes and turtles can pull the stunt too. A semi-permanent colour change that happens over days or weeks is more common in snakes – for example during the mating season. However, rare and sporadic examples of “physiological” colour change, caused by rapid changes in pigmented skin cells, have been recorded too.

Are you ready for a Weird Weekend?

Weird Weekend 2005
Weird Weekend 2005

It’s that time of year again! Craziness with the CFZ!

So if you have nothing better to do over the weekend of the 18th-20th August, then I highly recommend you head down to Devon and have some damn find crypto-fun!

Highlights will definitely include some alcohol, giggles, a damn good meal or two and Richard Freeman looking very dapper in his Gambia-Stained Safari Suit… nice!

A recent mailer from CFZ’s Jon concerning the Weird Weekend is as follows:

For the seventh year running, devotees of the weird and wonderful, the strange and supernatural, and the downright odd will be converging into Devon for what has become the biggest event of this type of the year. The weekend of 18-20th August, will see the little North Devon village of Woolfardisworthy (Woolsery), becoming the weirdest village in the land!

The ‘Weird Weekend’ was the brainchild of Jonathan Downes (46), Director of the Centre for Fortean Zoology the world’s largest cryptozoological (mystery animal research) organization.

English Monster Hunters in search for Killer Dragon

The CFZ are almost ready for this years adventure to Gambia, in search of Ninki-nanka. Unfortunately Cryptoworld will not be travelling with them this time, but we will definitely keep track of their progress and let you know if they find what they are looking for!

English Monster Hunters in search for Killer Dragon
  • [inspic=13,right,,thumb]30-foot killer dragons lurking in swamps?
  • A sea monster carcass buried on an African beach, with a map marking the spot?

Are these plot lines for the next series of Doctor Who? No, they are real-life accounts that have drawn the world's only full-time monster hunters to West Africa for their latest expedition.

In early July, a six-person team from the North Devon based Centre for Fortean Zoology is travelling to the Gambia to investigate these weird tales.
