Bosnian Pyramids (Real?)

[inspic=27,right,,thumb]This week, the Egyptian geologist Dr Aly Abd Barakat visited central Bosnia, to give his views on the hills that amateur archaeologist Semir Osmanagic claims are 12,000 year old pyramids. After visiting all three sites, named by Osmanagic as the Bosnian Pyramids of Sun, Moon and Dragon, Dr Aly Abd Barakat said the hills did appear to be primitive human-made pyramids of uncertain age.

Huge stone blocks have been found at the sites and it was Dr Baraket's conclusion, that they were made manually and polished in a similar way to those of the Egyptian Pyramids. The purpose of polishing is believed to reflect sun light, making the Pyramids visible from a great distance.

No Baby Bigfoot Caught

So it’s looking like the stories of the Johor ‘Bigfoot’ being caught are false! I new it sounded too good to be true. But even so, there still seems to be a lot of confusion, possibly even a cover-up?Cryptoworld will keep an ear to the ground…

No baby Bigfoot, say Malaysian officials

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian wildlife officials denied capturing a baby “Bigfoot” Thursday, amid fevered speculation over the existence of the mythical creature in the nation’s southern jungles.

The Berita Harian newspaper reported that a young Bigfoot was caught by a group of men thought to be from the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) near the southern town of Kota Tinggi two weeks ago.

The paper quoted local residents as saying they had spoken to men who described shooting the creature with tranquiliser darts. The locals then peeked into the back of the their truck to see a large, hairy creature.

But the department’s director-general Datuk Musa Nordin denied the report.

“During the period reported, Perhilitan did not mount any operation in the area,” Musa said in a statement carried by the official Bernama news agency.

Freddie Long, the Tourism and Environment Committee chairperson in southern Johor state, said that if a Bigfoot had been captured, it should have been given to local authorities for research.

Bigfoot fever erupted last December when some workers claimed to have spotted three of the beasts, two adults and a youngster, on the edge of a Johor forest reserve.

The tale was given wide coverage in the national press which also carried stories of other sightings, some dating back decades, and printed photographs of supposed footprints - vague impressions in the jungle floor.

Local authorities treated the claims seriously, with plans for an official expedition to track down the mysterious beasts, and setting up a telephone hotline to report sightings.

Suggestions that the story has been cooked up to lure tourists to Johor have been denied.

Stories of mythical ape-like creatures have been reported in wilderness areas all over the world. They are known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch in the United States and Canada, and yetis in the Himalayas. - Sapa-AFP

Johor ‘Bigfoot’ caught?

Conflicting stories always cause confusion, wasting valuable time and money. So when two newspapers report different stories about the possible capture of the Johor Bigfoot, you have to wonder, which is telling the truth?

Surly one is right? Probably the one saying it hasn’t be caught, but the world of Cryptozoology seem to be holding its breath, hoping the other is right!

Cryptomundo picks up on the conflicting stories, but it seems that the state Environment and Tourism Committee chairman Freddie Long has said the following “We are not sure if the department’s officers had caught a baby Bigfoot. I only knew about it from newspapers today,”.

As a result, what appears to be a rushed law has been released stating: NO injury of any kind - including shooting - should be inflicted on Bigfoot (if it exists), which the Johor Government has classified as a totally-protected species. The creature also cannot be brought out of the State should it be caught without the permission from the relevant State authorities.

Interesting, but has one been shot? Time will tell I guess, but don’t hold your breath too long, it could prove fatal!

Pyramid found in Bosnia?

[inspic=11,right,fullscreen,thumb]Archaeologists have begun digging for what they think might be a pyramid hidden beneath a hill in Bosnia.

Initial excavations have revealed a narrow entrance to what could be an underground network of tunnels, so this looks like it’s not a natural feature. One archaeologist says it seems to resembles pyramid sites he has studied in Latin America. So their conclusion is that it has to be man-made.

Satellite photographs and thermal imaging revealed two other, smaller pyraamid-shaped hills in the Visoko Valley, which archaeologists believe the tunnels could lead to.

Workers also discovered a paved entrance plateau and large stone blocks that could be part of a pyramid’s outer surface. If this is correct, it would mean that tis is the first pyramid to be discovered in Europe.

There is evidence of 7,000-year-old human settlements in the valley, and a recent German archaeological dig also found 24,000 Neolithic artefacts only meters below ground.

New Pictures of Nahuelito?

[inspic=36,right,fullscreen,thumb]Are these photos - left by an anonymous man in a newsroom - evidence of Nahuelito?

Nahuelito, for those who don’t know - is the lake monster said to inhabit the Nahuel Huapi Lake of Patagonia, Argentina.

It has been described as a giant serpent and sometimes called the Patagonia Plesiosaur.

The man came to our newsroom, spoke to the receptionist and left her an envelope with three photos and a note that read: “This is not a tree trunk with a capricious shape. This is not a wave. Nahuelito showed his face. Lake Nahuel Huapi, Saturday, April 15, 9 a.m. I’m not giving my personal information to avoid future headaches.” We are presenting the images. Let each one reach his/her own conclusions.

[inspic=37,right,fullscreen,thumb]Comments and opinions have been flying about all day, and I bet they will continue for the next few weeks, possibly even years.

But nobody seems to really know if these are authentic or just a fake. I guess the photos will need to be investigated, but by who? And will the world believe the findings?

One thing’s certain, Patagonia (Argentina) has now joined Johor (Malaysian) as one of the top places to go this year if you’re interested in crypto-tourisum!

Beijing hit by sandstorm

[inspic=310,right,,thumb]The Chinese capital, Beijing, has been hit by its eight - and worst - sandstorm of the year.

Millions of residents woke to find their city covered in a thin film of yellow dust after the storm blew in from the border of China and Mongolia.

Some are wearing face masks and hospitals reported increased numbers of patients with breathing problems.

Such storms occur annually, but experts say desertification in western China is increasing their frequency in the east.

Scientists blame poor farming practices and drought for the expanding desert, which now covers a third of the vast country.

The authorities in Beijing have planted trees around the capital to try to stem the spread of the desert.

Animal lets young eat its skin

[inspic=309,right,fullscreen,thumb]Very pleasant indeed, the Boulengerula taitanus, a worm-like amphibian from south-east Kenya was first identified back in 1935. But it is only recently that scientist have discovered its unusual parenting habits!

The adults have two rows of pointy teeth that they use to feed on insects, the young only have very small hook-like teeth when they hatch and as a result can’t eat the same way as their parents.

So the mother develops a thicker skin, a kind of nutritious outer layer that the young rip off and eat, using their special teeth. While the young are feeding the mother appears to be very relaxed, and not moving at all.

The Boulengerula taitanus belongs to the group of amphibians called caecilians, and while its young hatch from eggs, most of the species are viviparous, meaning that they give birth to already developed offspring. The fetus of the live-bearing caecilians are fed inside the female with special cells of the oviduct, which are eaten by the fetus with special scraping teeth.

Because they do this using similarly shaped teeth to the Boulengerula taitanus, the scientists believe that Boulengerula taitanus may be an evolutionary precursor to live-bearing caecilians.

Scientist also believe by studying how this form of parenting evolved might shed light on how parenting developed in mammals.

Book Covered in Human Skin?

[inspic=25,right,,thumb]A book thought to be 300 years old and covered in human skin has be found lying in a street in Leeds (UK). West Yorkshire Police believe it was probably dumped following a burglary, and have appealed to anyone who may be able to help identify the owners of the item!

Wrapping books in human skin seems to have been a common, if a little gruesome pastime a few hundred years agon. The bizarre practice know as anthropodermic bibliopegy was sometimes used in the 18th and 19th century to cover the accounts of murder trials, the skin used being that of the killer - nasty!

Were Rabbit Where?

[inspic=63,right,,thumb]I don't believe it! It must be a joke? What? It's real you say? I still don't believe it…

But it is true, there seems to be a 'large' or as some have described 'monstrous' rabbit on the loose in Felton, Northumberland (UK). Its been ripping up dozens of prize winning leeks and turnips, taking huge bites out of cabbages and carrots, and generally causing such a fuss, that a local sharp shooter, possibly a relative of Victor Quartermaine, has been called in. But animal welfare workers and the RSPCA have urged the growers to set a humane trap for the beast, so they can release it elsewhere. That's it, just pass the buck onto somebody else!!!

A brute of a thing
Reminiscent of the resent Wallace and Gromit film, locals have cursed this over-sized bunny as their very own 'were-rabbit'. "This is no ordinary rabbit,” said one local, another clams to have seen its footprints, and "they are huge, bigger than a deer." Crazy!

Call Anti-Pesto I say! Or perhaps a bit of Stinking Bishop will draw it from its burrow?

[inspic=20,right,,thumb]Cyclops Kitten, fake or real?

Cy, the alleged one-eyed, noseless kitten that inspired the international debate last year over whether it was a hoax or not, has been sold to a museum of oddities in New York.

John Adolfi the museum founder, who believes in creationism, said the kitten was meant to launch another debate about how science and religion intersect.>/p>
