Morris Men UFOs – will it start copycat hoaxes?

That’s two men from Morris County, not West Country Morris dancers!

But anyway, it’s all over the internet at the moment and causing quite a stir, so I wont go into details other than to say: Chris Russo and Joe Rudy rather stupidly decided it would be a good idea to publish their own video of them hoaxing UFOs back in January 2009.

At one point the stunt started to caused public hysteria with local residents calling police and news stations asking for witnesses, but now the whole thing now seems to have backfired on them after they published the videos on eSkeptic.com as an April Fools joke.

Which was rather silly, because once the videos had been published it was only a matter of time before the authority came knocking on their door. Which they did, and now they have been fined with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanour that typically carries a fine but no jail time.

What amazes me about this story is that the videos clearly show you how they did it, which kind of makes me feel there will probably be people out there who are right at this minute in the shops buying flares, balloons and helium – not forgetting the fishing line and duct tape!

In the late 80s I started investigating UFOs and crop circles and joined the CCCS (Centre for Crop Circle Studies) and a local group researching strange sightings and reports along the south coast of Dorset (UK). In the early ’90s I started my own research group called SPS (Strange Phenomena Studies), this was renamed in 2004 to Cryptoworld.
